Introduction : Gabrielle Mendoza

Hello everyone! My name is Gabrielle Mendoza and I'm a sophomore who is double majoring in video production and journalism with a possible minor in english. I know how that sounds... painful. All justifiable, I swear. While pursuing my passions in video production has always been a primary goal in my academic career, I recently came to the conclusion that a career in video production can be difficult and very competitive in the long run. With that said, I think that adding a journalism major and english minor could not only widen my job opportunities after college but also that they could even better enhance my skills in filmmaking. Hard work, but hopefully worth it in the end. (Fingers crossed.)

Now here I am, starting off my second year of college with my hands full and already going crazy. [Insert stressful sigh.] I'm only half kidding! [Insert dead laughter.] Any who, my academic goals would be to do well in those majors and also work hard to build up a good film/photography/writing portfolio that I can be proud of. I also hope to get internships which will help me establish a promising career in editing or screenwriting. After graduating college, I hope to get a job in editing for small companies or productions and later edit videos for big tv networks like ABC, AMC, HBO or even in films.

Career-wise, my ideal goal is to work my way up in the film/television industry, become a professional editor or screenwriter, and maybe even level up to become a successful TV showrunner and/or film director. I would also like to do some side-jobs in fashion, voice acting and video game making, but that's for another rant. On to my last ramble on this post: the media influence in my life.

Media fits into my life as somewhat of a lasting companion. As a video production major, media as well as studying media helps me better understand my career and also prepares me to better adapt to the ever-changing and expanding world of media-- which is also needed in my career. As an avid video gamer, film buff, and fashion lover, media fits into my life as an informer on what's new in those communities and keeps me connected to others who have the same interests. Lastly, as a human being in this day and age, I must confess that media, media consumption, and media studies are unavoidable and have become necessities in my life. Whether it's checking what my grandma's doing across the world on Facebook, constantly refreshing the page of my Tumblr dashboard to see any new posts or seeing any upcoming film projects, media has taken control of my life and I'd like to learn more about it in this class.
Here's a wacky edit I've been working on recently.
Before I go, here's the painful truth about filmmaking that I find inspiring and hope you will too.
